Sit and Be Fit

StuntsMy second day in the aircast and I broke it – I was climbing over a pilates reformer to grab some hand weights and holding my casted leg up (thanks to this IM our storage room has become the storage/pilates/bike room and now I can’t get to anything without climbing over something else) and the little button that releases the air from the air cast fell out, such that my air cast wasn’t able to hold any air.  Great. I was able to partially fix it with tape, but I’ll be calling the doctor tomorrow to get a new one.  At least I hadn’t put all of my stickers on it yet.

Steve (my coach) has started working on ideas for what I can do to stay in shape so that I can jump back into training once I get the ok from the doctor, and hopefully still knock this IM out this year.  A lot of it involves water and for now I’m a bit limited while I wait for my waterproof cast cover to come, so I’m just doing what I can until it comes in.

One of the things that I was planning to do when I hit the “six month until the IM” mark was do a daily update for  motivation and daily accountability.  I’ve decided that being in a boot I need even more motivation and accountability than ever, so I’ll go ahead and try this daily update thing and see how it goes.

Cardio: I tried an hour long seated HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) workout, with a strength work with dumbells and a short stretch/cooldown. The boot made some of the leg lift stuff weird. It was ok but definitely not hard enough work to mimic my regular workouts .  There are ways that I could make it more intense and/or I may have to come up with my own thing.

Pilates – this did not go well.  I have a home-version mini-reformer and it just doesn’t have a lot of extra room to deal with the boot.

200 crunches – done to make up for the core work I wasn’t able to do with the pilates.

100 modified push-ups (the kneeling ones didn’t really work with the boot so I did these standing on one leg and doing them against a wall.  Not ideal but better than nothing.

It’s going to be a long couple weeks y’all. Cross your fingers for me that it’s just two weeks.

You are such an inspiration to me Ragen. This has been the hardest year of my life, my wife passed away and I moved into assisted living after living in the same house my whole life, I can’t teach my passion of Tae Kwon Do (plus that bone head in office now) and your keeping your head up and keeping charge forward is such an inspiration. I know you will over come this injury
